Cerro Castor Information
Ushuaia is the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego, and is the world's southernmost city in the world. It is surrounded by the Martial Mountains and overlooks the Beagle Channel. Its superlative location allows you to enjoy sea, mountains and forests at the same time. Ushuaia is a major tourist town, with five star hotels, casinos and good restaurants, commonly used as a base for winter sports, hiking and cruises to Antarctica.
It is possible to enjoy all year long this city's magic. Summer is ideal for adventure tourism: you can go trekking, horseback riding or even mountain biking inside Tierra del Fuego National Park. It is also fishing season. You can even take amazing trips across the Beagle Channel, Cape Horn up to Argentine Antarctica. The Tierra del Fuego National Park constitutes an attraction itself, giving you the chance of discovering natural beauties like Lakes Escondido and Fagnano, as well as the Martial Glacier.
Winter and its snowy landscapes change Ushuaia's physiognomy radically. Only 15 Km. from the city you have the Cerro Castor Ski Resort, on Krund Hill.
Cerro Castor is the southernmost Winter Sports Center in the world and the most modern ski resort in all South America having the newest lifts and the most up-to-date rental equipment. It is the most exclusive ski resort in Argentina.
Cerro Castor Ski Resort is recommended for any skier and snowboarder, families and couples looking for a more complete experience than just skiing or snowboarding. Activities such as boat rides to see Sea Lions, other animals and small islands, hikes at Tierra Del Fuego national park, numerous cross country ski areas, dog sled rides and snow shoeing are always available. Downtown Ushuaia is a 25 minute drive from the ski resort of Cerro Castor. Ground transfers are provided by most hotels in Ushuaia as part of your accommodation price or as an extra option.
Cerro Castor, being the coldest resort, guarantees the best snow in the Southern Hemisphere. From the beginning of the season in mid June to end of October the resort constantly receives its 10-13 centimeters of snow per week.
The extreme skier or snowboarder will find very steep terrain as well. Cerro Castor´s aggressive couloirs and chutes will provide you with a good dose of adrenaline. There are 45º couloirs waiting for you…
Cerro Castor has 23 suitable tracks for all the levels. They total 24 kilometers of longitude and they cover a skiing surface of 600 hectares. It is not as big as a resort in North America or Europe but for sure is the most special one you have ever seen. Trail’s maintenance and leveling is done all year long, most of the work is done during the summer. This made many of the tracks be approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS).
If your race team is thinking about a resort to train this is the place to do it and we are the ones to organize your training trip. For many years, top professional teams from all over the world have chosen Cerro Castor for their pre-season training. Giorgio Rocca (Italian team) number one worldwide in special slalom endorses the technical conditions and service offered by this mountain.
You can also enjoy Nordic skiing down here with circuits that go through lengas forests which can also be visited on snow rackets.
Besides the amazing skiing at Cerro Castor, it is a great place for shopping: the whole island is a tax free zone. From ski, snowboard or climbing gear to electronic devices and cosmetics. All at a lower price than in any other place in this continent.
